Cell Centers Filter in ParaView

The Cell Centers filter uses the VTK filter vtkCellCenters. The filter creates a point at the center of each input cell. No geometry is created unless specified by the user. Labeling and placing glyphs at these points are two reasons why this filter may be used. The parametric center of the cell is created from this filter. The parametric center of the cell may or may not be the geometric center of the cell or the center of the bounding box of the cell.

  1. First the user selects the data they wish to operate on from the Selection Window. It will be highlighted when this occurs.
  2. The user can then select Filter->Alphabetical->Cell Centers from the main menu.
  3. The Generate Vertices checkbox must be toggled on to generate the vertices as point geometry.
  4. The Apply button must be pressed before the output will be generated.
