Extract Cells By Region Filter in ParaView

The Extract Cells By Region Filter works very similar to the ParaView Clip. It extracts all cells of a data set with an implicit plane that fall inside or outside of a region. The output type of data is an unstructured grid. To extract cells by region:

  1. First the user selects the data they wish to operate on from the Selection Window. It will be highlighted when this occurs.
  2. The user can then select Filter->Alphabetical->Extract Cells By Region from the main menu. This will open the Extract Cells By Region Filter interface.
  3. In the Intersect With check box the user can select the clipping surface, which can only be a plane.
  4. The Show Plane check box toggles on/off the visibility of the clipping plane.
  5. The location of the plane is changed by editing the X, Y, and Z values of the center.
  6. The orientation of the plane is changed by changing the normal direction.
    1. The X Normal changes the orientation of the plane along the X-axis.
    2. The Y Normal changes the orientation of the plane along the Y-axis.
    3. The Z Normal changes the orientation of the plane along the Z-axis.
    4. The Camera Normal changes the orientation of the plane along the axis of the camera.
  7. The Extraction Side menu allows the user to choose cells that are inside or outside of the region.
  8. The Extract only intersected check box toggles on/off the extraction of only the cells that are on the boundary of the region.
  9. The Extract intersected check box toggles on/off the extraction of cells that are on the boundary of the region.
  10. The Apply button must be pressed before any extracted cells will be generated.
