VisIt Main Window
VisIt's Main Window contains three main areas: the File Panel, Plot Manager, and Notepad area.
The File Panel is located at the top of the VisIt Main Window. It allows the user to open (virtual) databases. It also allows the user to set the active time step. In the image to the right, the VisIt File Panel shows that a single file, 5514roll.401.vtk, is selected.
The Plot Manager is in the middle of the VisIt Main Window, just below the File Panel. This area allows the user to create and modify plots and operators. In the image to the right, the Plot Manager is located around the area labeled Active Plots List. It is labeled as such, because in this white space, the user can have several active plots being displayed at one time.
The Notepad Area is in the lower part of the VisIt Main Window, just below the Plot Manager. The Notepad area is a blank area into which a VisIt window can be attached to the VisIt Main Window. VisIt terms this action as "posting." Alternately, each VisIt window can be totally separated from the Main Window.
At the bottom of the VisIt Main Window is the status bar. This is the area that VisIt updates the user on the progress of drawing plots or operators.
Next to the VisIt Main Window is the Vis Window, which is where the visualizations are drawn.
