The Vector plot allows the user to display vector variables by using glyphs (such as arrows) that indicate the direction and magnitude of the variable.

  1. In the Plot Manager section of the VisIt Main Window, select Plots->Vector.
  2. In the Plot Manager section, select PlotAtts->Vector. This will bring up the Vector plot attributes window.
  3. There are four tabs available for the user. The first tab is labeled Reduce by. This tab allows you to limit the number of vectors by using the N vectors field, or by using the Stride field which allows the user to have a vector every N steps through the mesh.
  4. Style is the second tab.
    1. The Line radio button allows the user to have the body of the glyph represented as a line.
      • The Line style pull-down menu allows the user to change the style of the line from solid to dash.
      • The Line width changes the width of the line used.
    2. The Cylinder radio button allows the user to have the body of the glyph represented as a cylinder.
    3. The Draw Head check box turns on/off the drawing of an arrow head on the glyph.
    4. The High Quality check box turns on/off the drawing of a higher quality (slower rendering, but prettier) glyph.
    5. The Vector origin radio button allows the user to choose between having the vector located at its Head, Middle, or Tail.
  5. Color is the third tab. It allows the user to color the glyph be either the Magnitude or as a solid color, i.e., Constant.
    • By checking the Min box and entering a number, you can change the minimum value for the color of the vector.
    • By checking the Max box and entering a number, you can change the maximum value for the color of the vector.
  6. Scale is the fourth tab.
    • The Scale text field allows the user to manually scale the vector.
    • The Scale by magnitude check box turns on/off the scaling of the magnitude.
    • The Auto scale check box turns on/off the automatic scaling of the vector glyph.
  7. The Legend check box turns on/off the drawing of the legend.
  8. Click on Apply.
  9. Click on the Draw button in the Plot Manager section.
